DMTS investigations under real environmental conditions The influence of humidity on production processes and material properties can change the product quality lastingly. Optimised humidity and temperature conditions are of great importance for the food, paper, lacquer or plastics industry. For example the production and storage of pasta under optimal humidity/temperature conditions are mentioned. The variation of humidity and temperature influence the mechanic characteristics like material stiffness (modulus of elasticity – Young’s modulus E’, E’’, E*) and the visco-elastic damping tan delta substantially. How does a rough sea climate (with salts enriched sea air) affect the mechanical characteristics of lacquers (painting on ships)? The influence of these parameters (humidity/temperature) can be simulated with a combination of EPLEXOR® and HYGROMATOR®. Existing DMA systems of GABO QUALIMETER Testanlagen GmbH can be retrofitted with the humidity generator HYGROMATOR®. An insertion is necessary for the temperature chamber in order to obtain a homogeneous humidity climate within the temperature chamber. |
Figure 2 shows a typical humidity and temperature profile. At constant temperatures humidity ramps with positive or negative slopes can be selected. Combinations of temperature gradients and humidity ramps complete the application field of this system. Tests at constant temperature levels and constant humidity can be carried out. ![]() |
